Colors After Dark 🌃

The daylight savings ghost is clocking in. 👻

There is something about this time of year — when night arrives a little sooner, when the air turns a little cooler.

Shadows get bolder.

Color starts acting different — deeper, colder, a little unbothered.
Halloween energy, scientifically speaking.

Halloween isn’t just costumes and candy.

It’s a shift in atmosphere.

A thinning of the ordinary.

Color softens.

Shadows speak.

When Light Dims, Color Deepens

During the day, color is loud — bold, sunstruck, unapologetic.

But at night?

It moves differently.

Indigo stretches farther. Violet grows quieter.

Black stops feeling “empty” and becomes a presence of its own.

In my work, I look for that moment — when the pigment is still wet and shifting, when gravity is choosing, when the piece hasn’t decided who it is yet.

That in-between state is where the magic lives.

The liminal.

The threshold.

The becoming.

Halloween is simply the world stepping into that moment with us.

The Night is a Portal

Think of it like this:

  • The moon isn’t just light — it’s memory.

  • Darkness isn’t absence — it’s depth.

  • Color in the dark doesn’t disappear — it evolves.

Our spaces change too.

A painting that feels radiant in daylight becomes velvet-soft at night.

A piece that once felt bright becomes oceanic, or cosmic, or ancient.

Nothing is static.

Nothing is finished.

Everything is in motion — even when still.

A Little Ritual for Tonight

If you want to experience your art differently:

  1. Turn off overhead lights.

  2. Leave only a lamp — warm, soft, low.

  3. Sit with a piece you love.

  4. Let your eyes adjust.

  5. Notice what emerges.

Color becomes emotion.

Shadow becomes part of the composition.

You begin to see with something other than sight.

This is what Halloween gives us:

A chance to see differently.

For Those Who Feel the Night

Abstract Colors has always been for the ones who can read a room by its palette.

The ones who understand that color is a frequency.

A language.

A world you step into.

Tonight, may your space be of quiet cosmos.

May your art feel alive.

May color reveal something new to you in the dark.

Happy Halloween,

See you on the dark side of the palette. 🌑✨
